Why Polish Wine?
With over 1000 hectares under vine and a new generation of ambitious winemakers, Poland has an increasingly diverse wine scene to discover.
DIVERSE: From sparkling, white and orange wines to reds and sweet wines, from low-intervention and natural wines to more conventional approaches, Polish winemaking covers an impressive range of styles.
LOCAL: Some of the Polish vineyards I work with are only around a two-hour drive from Berlin. Hard to get much more local.
FOOD-FRIENDLY: Poland's cool climate gives its wines the vibrant acidity that makes them particularly versatile at the table. With a wide range of styles, there is plenty of scope for pairing across different cuisines.
UNIQUE: Poland probably isn't the first country that comes to mind when you think about wine – and that's part of what makes it interesting. Polish winemakers work with both familiar Vitis vinifera varieties and PIWIs particularly suited to the country's climate. From zingy Riesling and aromatic Hibernal to juicy Rondo, there is plenty to explore.
